PICO CANYON, Los Angeles County — Pico Canyon provides a recreational connection from the Santa Clarita Valley into the Santa Susana Mountains, with trails managed through the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority.
MRCA lists the access point as 27201 Pico Canyon Road, Newhall and describes opportunities for hiking, bicycling, horseback riding and visits with dogs on leashes. Trails lead through shaded sections of the canyon and into more rugged backcountry.
Two Pico Canyon destinations, two managers
Visitors should distinguish the MRCA-managed Pico Canyon / Mentryville open space from the separate LA County-operated Pico Canyon Park at 25600 Pico Canyon Road. Facilities, trail rules and permitted activities may differ between the two properties.
Bring water, stay on designated routes and check for wildfire restrictions or maintenance closures before leaving home. A listing of cycling and equestrian amenities does not mean every trail segment is suitable for every user or open after severe weather.
